The Being Frank identity is us in a few simple shapes – honest, bold, playful. And pretty much sums up the kind of work we want to be associated with.
The number of street food vendors in South Africa is estimated at over half a million. Unbranded, undifferentiated, and many, in bad condition, they compete in an industry driven by word of mouth and foot traffic. The majority of the South African public do not view these vendors as serious businesses, nor the important role they play in our informal economy.
Being Frank initiated a project called PIMP MY STREET KITCHEN which aims to turn street food vendors into branded businesses. The aim is to transform the street food vendor industry, transforming vendors into uniquely branded, mobile health-and-safety compliant food trailers, complete with fully-equipped, fully functional kitchens and up-skilling them with the business acumen to become sustainable.
As a starting point, we partnered with three female vendors in Johannesburg, and created a unique visual identities for each business. We ran an Indiegogo campaign over the month of November 2016 to raise funds for the initiative. We managed to raise over R65 000. We are still currently fundraising to materialize the trailers.
